Little Sister

Today is my little sister's second wedding anniversary. It's amazing that, being five years younger than me, and despite the fact that she has been very ill for the last five years (she's been through some things that would have laid most people low), she is still a couple of squares ahead of me on the Great Monopoly Board of Life. I don't begrudge her that, not at all. It makes me proud that we have the same blood pumping through our veins. She has such strength in her, and such an indomitable will. To wax slightly colloquial for a moment - the girl does not take shit from anyone. Anyone.

Additionally, tomorrow is her birthday. She always wanted to wake up married on her birthday, and thus it was. I was fortunate enough (and greatly honoured) to be the MC at her wedding, and to get through the entire procedure without crying once. I tend to get emotional at weddings, especially when the people in question mean the Earth to me, which I have realised over the last few years that my sister does.

Sure we've had our share of disagreements, but there was never any real malice, nothing with any side to it. It's funny how being an adult lets you look back on your childhood with different vision. Things that were never clear to you suddenly blaze bright as day. You realise the value in people. I realise now that my little sister is stronger and more courageous than almost anyone I know, and I love her for it.
